Diamond was born on June 19th, 2012 and is the newest member of DRC’s sea lion family. This little gem was born at SeaWorld Orlando. Her mom, Topaz, was born there as well, and her dad, Rocco was rescued by SeaWorld when he was just a pup.

Guests can tell Diamond apart from the other sea lions at DRC by her long, beautiful whiskers. When wet, Diamond is a darker shade of chocolate brown color than her female counterpart, Lina. But don’t be fooled, after a few hours of laying out in the hot Florida sun, Diamond tends to turn a lighter, almost silvery blonde color. Her trainers are captivated by her big, wide set eyes that are often filled with determination. Some of her favorite behaviors involve her very large front flippers; such as waving to crowds, covering her face with ‘shame’ and even blowing kisses to her trainers! But, just like we all have a favorite activity, so does Diamond! Her absolute favorite behavior is when she gets to dive through the air, imitating her dolphin friends that live next door in the front lagoon.

Diamond enjoys spending time with the rest of our sea lion family. She is particularly close with Lina, and the two girls are often seen hanging out together. Her favorite tasty treat is the ice from the bottom of her fish bucket. The ice is dropped onto the dock as a signal to the sea lions that there is no more fish and that particular session is over. Diamond will often assert her dominance over Lina and steal Lina’s ice after all of hers is gone. Trainers can usually tell when this happens because they can hear Diamond “barking” at Lina before they see the act. Along with the ice, Diamond also enjoys playing with toys. Some of her favorites are cones, floating buoys and sometimes even fish from her lagoon. It is always enjoyable watching Diamond play with her toys, as she loves to throw them as hard as she can into the air and watch them soar!
