National Disability Independence Day is observed each year on July 26th to commemorate the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in 1990. It is a day to celebrate the rights, achievements, and independence of people with disabilities while promoting equal access and inclusion for all. It is also an opportunity for organizations to recognize the importance of removing barriers and creating welcoming environments for everyone.
TheDolphin Research Center is dedicated to marine mammal research, education, and conservation. This mission extends to our commitment to providing meaningful opportunities for people of all abilities to connect with dolphins and the natural world. Through our accessible facility and programs, we strive to ensure that visitors with disabilities can participate in all of the educational experiences and interactive programs that we offer.
Dolphins are known for their intelligence and playful nature, which easily captures the attention of our guests with special needs. The one-on-one support provided by our trained staff helps ensure that guests of all abilities can fully participate in our programs. Although each experience may look different, the joy, accomplishment, and connection that result, are often shared by all.
At Dolphin Research Center, we know that dolphins have a unique ability to inspire, engage, and connect. For many individuals with special needs, interacting with our dolphin family promotes joy, confidence, and a sense of accomplishment. Whether a guest is participating in one of our public programs with assistance from our trained staff members or is part of an individualized program, these interactions provide opportunities for learning, social interaction, and personal growth in a supportive and welcoming environment.
Creating truly inclusive environments requires ongoing investment. Dolphin Research Center provides an Aqua-Lift that provides greater access to in-water experiences for guests with mobility disabilities. With community support, we can continue to expand opportunities for guests of all abilities.
The bonds formed between dolphins and special needs guests are a powerful reminder of the importance of removing barriers. This in turn creates an inclusive environment where every individual feels valued, welcomed, and empowered to participate. Dolphin Research Center is committed to ensuring that people of all abilities have the opportunity to learn, connect, and create lasting memories with our dolphin family.
Imagine fulfilling your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) completely tax-free while also helping the dolphins! That’s what will happen when you make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) from an IRA directly to Dolphin Research Center. When a QCD is taken to fulfill the RMD, that distribution is excluded from income, which then lowers your adjusted gross income. A win/win for you and Dolphin Research Center! For more details on how a QCD could help you and DRC, please consult your financial or tax advisor.
There are planned gifts that offer opportunities to secure income now for you and your family, help you benefit from current tax incentives, and also help DRC continue to provide the best care possible for our animal family well into the future.
You don’t have to have a large estate to make a meaningful arrangement for the future. Planned gifts of any size that are bequeathed to DRC can be made through wills, life insurance policies, retirement plan assets, IRAs, charitable remainder trusts, and more. Your financial and/or legal advisor will be able to provide you with the best guidance based on your wishes, needs, and status.
