Merlin was born in 1981. After Merlin’s mate died, his owner felt that Merlin needed the companionship of other birds, so brought him to DRC in 1992. He has since formed a strong bond with Rainbow. He sometimes talks, saying “Hello” and “Arthur.”

 

Blue and Gold Macaw Facts: 

  •  Macaws are very playful and can mimic human vocalizations very well
  • Are a tropical species native to South America like Panama, Colombia and Brazil
 

How old is Merlin? 
Calypso was born in 1981, and can live 60-80 years. 

How big can Merlin get?
They can have a wingspan of 42 inches and be about 34- 36 inches long including tail feathers. However they usually weight about 2-3 lbs.  

What does Merlin eat?  
Merlin eats primarily nuts but will also eat fruits and veggies.
